As a general rule Lips and eyebrows are mostly always done with a 16 gauge needle.

To put in piercing, simply pull apart the ring slightly and the segment will come out. Pop in piercing and slightly open the ring again to slot the segment in. Take care not to over stretch the ring. Long nose pliers can help. The tool body piercers use is also very useful as it opens the ring the opposite way to pliers.
