Finding Your Ring Size

The best way to get an accurate ring size is to visit a jeweler. They can easily measure your finger with a set of ring sizers or measure an existing ring you own on a ring stick.

Ring Sizing at Home

If you can’t get to a jeweler, you can use our chart and these two methods to find your size at home.

Method 1: Measure a Ring You Already Own

  1. Take an existing ring that fits the intended finger.
  2. Lay the ring flat on a table and measure its inside diameter (the width straight across the inside of the ring).
  3. Match this measurement to the diameter column in our size chart.

Method 2: Measure Your Finger

  1. Take a strip of paper about 2 cm wide.
  2. Wrap the paper tightly around the base of the finger you’re buying the ring for.
  3. Mark with a pen where the paper overlaps.
  4. Remove the paper and use a ruler to measure the length from the end to your pen mark. This is your finger’s circumference.
  5. Match this measurement to the circumference column in our size chart.

Important Tips for Measuring at Home:

  • Be Accurate: For the paper method, make sure you wrap the paper as tightly as possible.
  • Go Over the Knuckle: Measure the base of your finger, not your knuckle. A ring should fit over the knuckle but not feel too tight on the base of your finger.
  • Consider Temperature: Your fingers can change size throughout the day. Avoid measuring when you’re feeling too hot or too cold.
  • Wide Bands: If you’re buying a wide-band ring, consider going up a half size to ensure a comfortable fit.
Jacket Size Guide

Use this chart to find your perfect fit. Our sizes (Medium to XXL) are in typical New Zealand sizing, so they have a generous fit.

All measurements can be taken in either centimeters or inches.

How to Measure

  • Body Length: Measure from the top of your shoulder down the length of your body.
  • Chest: Measure across your chest from the midpoint of one armpit to the other.
  • Sleeve Length: Measure from the tip of your shoulder down to your wrist.
  • Arm Length: Measure the length of your armhole from the top of your shoulder to your armpit.

Tips for Sizing

Consider the part of your body that is usually the trickiest to fit. For example, if you have long arms, you might want to choose a looser size to ensure the sleeves are a comfortable length.

Don’t worry if you get the size wrong! We’re happy to exchange it for another size, provided we have it in stock.

This size chart also applies to our ladies’ jackets.

For the Pixie jacket specifically, the waist is 4 inches smaller than the chest for a tapered fit.

What are the payment options?

We offer several secure ways to pay for your order.

Silver Surfers Wholesale Program

We offer wholesale options for genuine retail businesses looking to sell our products. We require all wholesale partners to be established stores or active retailers.

Our wholesale prices are lower than our retail prices, reflecting the bulk orders and ongoing relationship we hope to build. To protect our existing wholesale partners, we avoid selling the same products to two businesses that are in close proximity. However, we may offer different product lines, such as our wool or sterling silver items, to multiple businesses in the same area.

With over 25 years of experience wholesaling in New Zealand and Australia, we’ve built a reputation for quality and reliability. To make ordering easy, we can set up a unique website login for you with a special price structure.

Sterling silver care tips

Caring for Your Silver & Copper Jewelry

Keeping your jewelry looking its best is simple with the right care. Here are our top tips for cleaning and protecting your favorite pieces.

Sterling Silver Care

Polishing & Cleaning

  • Silver Polishing Cloth: This is the easiest method. The cloth is treated with special chemicals—just rub it over your jewelry to restore its shine.
  • Silvo: For a deeper clean, Silvo is a great, economical option. Apply a small amount to a clean cloth, rub it on the silver, then use a separate clean cloth to buff it to a shine. This method can be a bit messier as it removes more tarnish (the black residue), but it’s perfect for polishing many items at once.

Tip: Some silver jewelry has intentional black sections to highlight a pattern. This is created by a process called oxidization. A polishing cloth won’t get into these deep areas, preserving the design.

What to Avoid

  • Don’t Use “Silver Dip” Cleaners: These products can eventually discolor the silver and may damage any stones.
  • Avoid Abrasives: Don’t use toothpaste, as it’s too abrasive and can scratch the surface of your jewelry.
  • Harsh Chemicals: Never expose your silver to bleach, ammonia, alcohol, nail polish remover, or turpentine.

Preventing Tarnish

Silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air and certain elements. Here are some things that can speed up the process:

  • Pollution and acidic skin.
  • Sulfur in hot pools or sweat.
  • Hot temperatures.

Wearing your jewelry frequently can actually help prevent tarnish, as the constant rubbing against your clothes polishes it without you even trying!

Glued-In Jewels & Shells

Some of our jewelry features stones or shells that are glued, not set with prongs. To prevent the glue from weakening, please take care to protect these items from heat and chemicals.

  • Remove this jewelry before showering, bathing, or doing dishes.
  • Avoid leaving it in hot places, like on the dashboard of your car on a sunny day.

If a stone does come loose, it can often be reset. You can find strong, clear jewelry glue at many craft stores, or you can return the item to us for repair (customer must cover the return shipping).

Copper & Bronze Copper Care

All of the tips above apply to our copper and bronze jewelry as well. For cleaning, Silvo works great, but Brasso is even more effective for a deeper shine.

What is sterling silver?

Have you ever wondered what “sterling silver” actually means? It’s a hallmark of quality that indicates the metal is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, typically copper. This precise ratio is an international standard.

  • Why not 100% silver? Pure silver is too soft, tarnishes easily, and isn’t durable enough for everyday wear. The added metals make it stronger, more resistant to tarnish, and easier for jewelers to work with, ensuring your jewelry lasts.

Sterling Silver vs. Silver Plated

It’s crucial to know the difference:

  • Sterling Silver: This is the genuine article. It’s solid metal all the way through, so you can always polish it back to its original shine, even after years of wear.
  • Silver Plated: This means a base metal has only a thin coating of silver on top. The coating is prone to rubbing off and discoloration over time, and it won’t last. Silver-plated items are much cheaper but don’t hold their value or durability.

We guarantee that all of our silver jewelry is genuine sterling silver.

What Affects the Price?

The cost of sterling silver is often determined by its weight. A heavier chain, for example, contains more silver and is generally thicker and stronger. Lighter, more delicate chains will be less expensive, but they offer their own unique, elegant appeal. Ultimately, your choice comes down to personal style and budget.

About Our Sterling Silver

While some alloys use other metals like germanium or platinum to reduce tarnish, our sterling silver is a simple, quality alloy. It’s the same reliable material used by many top jewelry manufacturers, ensuring you’re getting a durable and beautiful product that will stand the test of time.

Faulty or Damaged Items

If your item is faulty, we will meet our obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act. We will first offer to repair or replace the item. If that’s not possible, we will issue a refund. • Our warranty does not cover:
    • Normal wear and tear.
    • Misuse of the product.
    • Deliberate or accidental damage.
  • Specific Exclusions: We do not guarantee glued-in jewels or shells, plastic tongue bar balls, or nose studs with glued-in jewels.
